This may be a no-brainer for you.  Or it may be the very first time you've considered the true identity of the one we call "The Christ".

The above is an entry from Strong's Bible Dictionary.  This is the meaning for Strong's Word #5548, the Greek word Kristos (Christ).   Since the new testament was written in Greek and Aramaic, this word Kristos is the Greek form of the Hebrew word mashiyach {maw-shee'-akh} with the same meaning, anointed.

What does it mean to be anointed?

1 Kings 1:39 "And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save King Solomon."

1 Samuel 16:13 "Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah."

In both of these references, a king is being anointed with oil.  Jesus, the anointed one, is to to reign as king over all the earth.  Throughout the entire Old Testament, God promises that one day a redeemer would come to crush Satan's hold on humanity - and atone for man's sin.
